MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY APPROACHES
Doug utilizes a number of psychotherapy approaches, as well as other mental therapy approaches, in his practice. Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a form of treatment that involves the trained mental health professional working with an individual or group to improve their mental health and well-being. The goal is to help clients understand and manage their emotions, change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, develop coping mechanisms, improve relationships, and enhance overall mental health
Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)
A type of mental health therapy that helps individuals acknowledge their relationship and their thoughts and feelings. ACT achieves this through the core processes of; acceptance, commitment, being present, following one’s values, diffusion, understanding how are past experiences affect us and working on seeing our problems from a different perspective..
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.
Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP)
A type of mental health therapy that involves the client practicing confronting the thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make them anxious and provoke obsessions.
Christian Counseling
This is a therapeutic approach that combines professional psychological methods with principles and teachings from the Christian faith. It aims to provide emotional support and spiritual growth by integrating biblical guidance, scripture, and prayer to help individuals with a wide range of life challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. The core belief is that faith-based principles are a key part of achieving holistic healing and well-being.
Culturally Sensitive
This is a mental health approach that acknowledges, respects, and incorporates a client’s unique cultural, ethnic, religious, and social background into their treatment plan. Therapists using this method tailor their approach to individual clients rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, ensuring treatment aligns with their client’s values, beliefs, and experiences. This includes understanding how factors like race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and language influence a person’s worldview and well-being.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
This is a mental health approach that acknowledges, respects, and incorporates a client’s unique cultural, ethnic, religious, and social background into their treatment plan. Therapists using this method tailor their approach to individual clients rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, ensuring treatment aligns with their client’s values, beliefs, and experiences. This includes understanding how factors like race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and language influence a person’s worldview and well-being.
